I did a quick survey last week about what sends people away from a website when they arrive for the first time (more on that later this week!), and one of the things that kept coming up was bad pictures.
Not bad like offensive, although I'm sure that would send people running just as quickly!
Bad pictures as in blurry, poorly lit, or just plain irrelevant.
Which makes the images you use on your website uber important, and needing to be a priority, like, yesterday!
I know what you're thinking...
"But I don't know how to take great photos!"
"I don't have a professional camera!"
"I can't afford to pay out the nose for stock photos for every single post!"
Guess what, neither could I!
When you're not quite making the money you need to reinvest in your site (aka broke as a joke!), find a way around it!
Over the years I've discovered a ton of great resources for free stock photos, but not all of them provide great free stock photos...these do!
Bookmark this post, bookmark the sites, have them tattooed on your forearm for easy access, whatever you have to do to make sure you don't let another crappy, blurry, "send them running" photo on your site ever again, do it!
This is one of my favorites because the quality is great, and you can also customize the download dimensions, instead of having to crop and edit the image to size afterward!
If you blog on a variety of topics, or more obscure topics, this will be a great blogging resource for you! Pixabay offers amazing professional stock photos, and a huge selection to choose from.
I also find it's more responsive to search terms than some other sites, so I usually find what I'm looking for on the first try!
Unsplash offers 10 new hi-resolution photos every 10 days (they'll even deliver them right to your inbox if you like!), and they are phenomenal!
While not for everyone since they mainly feature landscapes and some food shots, if you can incorporate these themes into your website, you won't be disappointed!
I know, I know, it's not free, but hear me out!
While Creative Market is based on a paid model, they do send their subscribers free downloads every Monday! These can range from photos, to fonts, to vector images and themes, and pretty much anything in between!
I highly recommend joining their mailing list here so you don't miss out on any of the weekly goodies. When you are ready to invest in your blog, Creative Market is definitely the place you'll find everything that you need (and about a million things you want)!
No more excuses!
As I said, there are a huge variety of resources out there, but some can shell out some "less than desireable" results. The ones listed here are the best free stock photo resources I have encountered, and I personally use them on the reg!
The images are all completely free, and allowed to be used as you see fit, without worry!
